This project involved upgrading an older off-grid solar and battery system for a river cabin located near Challis, Idaho. The homeowner contacted Elite Electrical Solutions because the existing system would only provide power during daylight hours and could no longer sustain the cabin overnight.
Diagnosing & Modernizing an Aging Off-Grid System
The original system used older OutBack off-grid equipment that still partially functioned but struggled to reliably store and deliver power overnight. The homeowner depended on the system for her remote cabin, so reliability and ease of use were extremely important.
Our team carefully evaluated the condition of the existing batteries, inverter components, and solar array before recommending a complete modernization of the system using updated high-voltage equipment and lithium battery technology.
Complete Off-Grid System Upgrade & Reconfiguration
The project involved dismantling the original low-voltage system, removing the old solar array components, and installing a new EG4 6000XP all-in-one inverter platform paired with upgraded solar panels and a lithium battery bank.
To reduce unnecessary costs for the homeowner, the new solar panels were selected specifically to fit onto the existing rail and pole mounting structure already in place at the property.
After mounting the new inverter and battery system, we reconfigured the solar strings, connected the backup generator integration, and installed closed-loop communication between the inverter and battery system. This allows the inverter and batteries to communicate directly for accurate battery management and improved system performance.
Reliable Long-Term Power for a Remote Cabin
Once installation was completed, the system went through a full commissioning and testing process to ensure safe and reliable operation. Afterward, we walked the homeowner through the system and connected it to her internet service for remote monitoring access.
The homeowner can now monitor solar production, power consumption, battery charge levels, and backup generator functionality directly from the system interface. Our team also continues to remotely monitor the system to help ensure long-term reliability and performance.
